Villa Puri Sejuk Estate is a truly magical and unique beachfront retreat set within a stunning rice field location. The 25-are Estate is at the end of a private drive running parallel to the beach, and the entrance is via a wooden footbridge over a narrow river, which is contained within a stone channel complete with a waterfall to one side of the house.

Puri Sejuk means ‘Cool Palace’; the fresh sea breezes are cool and refreshing, and the property is undoubtedly cool in both senses of the word. The coconut grove gardens roll gently down to the beach and the unbroken view of Bali’s magnificent coastline is breathtaking. The villa is constructed of entirely organic materials, the first of its kind, and is a labour of love designed and created by its Italian owner, Kiko Croserio. Handcrafted with inspiration, the property was not built for business purposes; instead it is a genuine home and the realization of a dream.

Suitable for families, honeymooners or perhaps an artist or writer looking for tranquility and inspiration, this serene fully air-conditioned 3-bedroom villa, can accommodate up to seven people, and is located on the outskirts of the traditional Balinese village of Seseh

Encompassed by nature within peaceful rural surroundings, it is nevertheless only thirty minutes drive from the fashionable shops, world class restaurants and vibrant nightspots of Seminyak, and about forty-five minutes’ drive from Bali’s International Airport. Most of the island’s main tourist attractions are within easy access

A pathway and gentle cobbled steps lead through the soft green lawns to a freeform swimming pool punctuated by a flourishing fan palm on a small island in the centre. A comfortable outdoor leisure and barbeque area is furnished with cushioned daybeds and a table, next to a poolside shower room. A hedge of hibiscus borders a gently swaying field of rice and a walk through the coconut grove will take you down to the beach. The views are spectacular and the melodious sound of the waves is constant

Villa Puri Sejuk Facilities

The downstairs living area is entered through tall, folding glass doors that open up to the garden and pool, allowing the natural light and cool breezes to permeate; the richly patterned floor is cool underfoot. Fully equipped with satellite television, DVD player, CD player, IDD telephone and broadband internet connection

A solid spiral staircase fashioned from merbau wood leads up to the “deck of the ship”, and when you walk into this room you will understand why the villa has been named after a cool palace. This enchanting upstairs living room boasts 180° of windows, each of which swing wide open on a horizontal hinge, to generate a sense of open-air living. The vista from here is truly awe-inspiring, with a spectacular panorama of rice fields, coconut trees, beach, Indian Ocean, and dramatic coastline all the way down to Uluwatu on the southwestern most tip of the island. West facing, this is also a wonderful spot for enjoying the sunsets, with comfortable cushioned sofas positioned to the best advantage

The adjoining master bedroom is hung with diaphanous drapes and furnished with a desk, stylish table lamps and built-in storage space. It features a king-sized bed on a raised platform embellished with a bamboo veneer. An antique sliding door leads into a panoramic wooden bathroom with a brass washbasin and shower. The self-contained guest pavilion is located outside, adjacent to the swimming pool. This African influenced circular gazebo is painted red on the outside and boasts a conical thatched roof, bordered by gnarled frangipanis, a majestic breadfruit tree, and spiky pandanus. A red and black motif is woven into the smooth pebbled terrace and the river is channeled along one side. Guests will be soothed to sleep by the rushing water as it negotiates the weir

The one-bedroom pavilion with en-suite shower room and dressing room, features ‘bengkirai’ or ironwood floors, timber shelving, built-in cupboard space and a canopied king size bed upon a raised platform

Puri Sejuk is well suited for parties and barbeques and the beach is accessed via the garden. The ocean immediately in front of the property is safe for swimming and canoeing, and canoes are available for use. Further down the beach is dangerous for swimming but renowned for its world class surf breaks. The flat quiet country roads are ideal for bicycling and five pushbikes are available. A car and driver is also available for excursions

Master Suite, Guest Suite and Guest House

The Master Suite is accessed by an elevated covered walkway on the Living Room level, bridging a water garden below. A sliding door opens to reveal the air-conditioned Office/Sitting Room, complete with merbau wood floor, antique desk, chairs and original artwork on the walls

The Master Bedroom is entered via another sliding door, where a splendid king-size, canopied bed, dressed in white linens and mosquito netting sits in the center of the room like a throne. It features intricate carving and is a copy of an old Madurese Royal bed. This air-conditioned room is equipped with a TV and VCD player. The walls are decorated in a cool shade of blue. There is a vaulted wood ceiling and folding glass doors that open onto a wide wrap around slate-floored balcony. This allows guests to choose open air sleeping instead of air-conditioning if they wish

The views from this room and balcony are breathtaking. The balcony is furnished with a cushioned day bed, rattan armchairs and a dining table for a private breakfast or lunch. This is also a wonderful spot for sunset cocktails

The ensuite air-conditioned bathroom is luxurious. It boasts a cream-colored marble floor, an abundance of wall mirrors, an oval-shaped terrazzo bathtub for two and twin marble washbasins. A toilet cubicle and a separate shower are each entered via frosted glass doors. The powerful overhead rainshower is complemented by a handheld shower. There is a large closet and dressing area with built-in wardrobes, drawers and plenty of storage space. A safe deposit box and mini-bar fridge are located in the dressing area

The air-conditioned Guest Suite is located on the Ground level. The Sitting Room/Children’s Bedroom is entered through a sliding door leading off a covered walkway beside a beautiful water garden. There is an L-shaped sofa that can be converted into twin beds, making this suite ideal for a family

The bedroom is entered through a sliding wooden door which separates it from the sitting room, or through doors opening onto the Terrace and Garden. This generous bedroom is furnished with antiques and artwork, an Oriental rug and a king-size, four-poster steel bed. The bed has elaborate white mosquito netting which allows guests to sleep with the folding glass doors open to the rice field views, or to choose the option of air-conditioning

The Guest Suite is equipped with a safe deposit box and a mini-bar fridge. A beautiful old cabinet holds a TV and VCD player. The dressing area and ensuite bathroom follow the same layout and have the same amenities as the Master Suite. The wide wrap around white Palimanan stone terrace is furnished with an antique carved Timorese table and chairs for private dining, or just relaxing and viewing the rice fields

The free standing Guest House is located on the far side of the living and dining pavilion on ground level. It can be reached from the Dining Room or by an outdoor staircase which leads from the Living Room. It is air-conditioned and features a soaring ceiling and a merbau wood floor. The furnishings include a queen size, four-poster bed fashioned from carved teak, with exquisite white linens and mosquito netting; an antique cabinet housing a TV and VCD player with surround sound; a writing table and chairs

The air-conditioned bathroom has a marble floor and a dressing area with fitted wardrobes, huge mirrors, and louvered doors which hide a safe deposit box and mini bar fridge. Double marble topped vanity units support large glass washbowls with teak cupboards and shelves underneath. The toilet cubicle and separate shower are each located behind frosted glass doors. The powerful rainshower is complemented by a handheld shower. Glass doors lead to an open air bathroom romantically lit by unique wall lamps. An oversize bathtub is sheltered under the roof eaves, and there is an outdoor rainshower for moonlit bathing. A glass wall of sliding doors opens onto a white Palimanan stone terrace. There is a marble topped iron table and chairs for private dining with garden and pool views. The terrace is sheltered by a pergola supporting a cascade of white thumbergia flowers

Living Room & Dining Room

Welcoming guests with its generous size and openness, the Living Room offers a sweeping vista of the pool, gardens and adjacent rice fields. Cooled by ceiling fans and natural ventilation, and characterised by an Indian slate floor and a soaring vaulted ceiling, the room is exquisitely furnished with cream leather sofas, chairs and bar stools. The centrepiece is an impressive iron chandelier designed by the owners. There is a polished granite party bar with fridge and sink, and a round table with chairs for intimate dining

A stairway leads down to the Dining Room, located on ground level next to the pool terrace. The room is furnished with a three meter long table which seats ten, a sideboard and a pair of 24-light standing candelabra. The ceiling features cove lighting and specialty lighting for the stunning art works which adorn the walls. Folding glass doors offer guests cool alfresco dining and the ambience is enhanced by water sounds emanating from adjacent ornamental ponds, water spouts and bubbling urns

There is a Powder Room at the foot of the stairs

Service Kitchen and Media Room

A timber bridge traverses a pond between the Dining Room and the immaculate Service Kitchen. It is fully equipped with everything that the chef needs to prepare delicious meals in accordance with the requests of each guest. A Wet Kitchen and a Laundry are both tucked away at the back, along with the staff entrance

The air-conditioned Media Room is equipped with a 32-inch LCD flat screen TV, VCD player and surround sound system. It is entered via folding doors leading from the Dining Room. This comfortable room is furnished with two deeply-cushioned sofas, traditional batik cushions, a games table with Plexiglas chairs, and an innovative glass topped coffee table created by hand from coffee-wood branches. Sliding windows on one side overlook an ornamental pond and a window on the other side looks out at the pool. Books and artifacts fill the bookcases

Garden, Swimming Pool, and Relaxation Pavilion

The 16 x 3 metre, blue slate tiled swimming pool has a waterfall at one end, two infinity edges, and is anchored by a Pendopo, used as a Relaxation Pavilion. This ancient structure is the core of a 150-year old wooden Joglo house from Java. It showcases ornate hand-carvings and robust columns, and was constructed using traditional tongue and groove techniques without the use of any nails or bolts. Furnished with a rustic table, a deeply cushioned rattan sofa and chairs, this raised pavilion, with its antique terracotta tiled floor is another delightful area for dining, entertaining and relaxing. There is a granite topped bar for serving at the back of the structure. The white Palimanan stone pool terrace is shaded by sweet-scented white frangipani trees; there are 4 sunbeds and two umbrellas

The expansive gardens are dotted with palm trees and white-flowering shrubs and trees. Open to the rice fields on one side with a view unbroken by walls or fences, the property expands its borders

Water is a predominant element in the spiritual landscape of Bali. This is reflected throughout the property, but especially in the enchanting water garden between the bedroom pavilion and the Living/Dining pavilion. The pond features white lotus and bulrushes, and is planted with white orchids and a frangipani tree on an island. Two serene Buddha statues sit in stone caves against a backdrop of flowing water to complete this beautiful water feature

Services

Legenda is supported by a carefully selected team of highly trained and experienced staff members who will ensure that its guests experience a truly enjoyable stay in Bali. The team includes an in-house chef, a head houseman, housekeepers, a full time gardener and three security guards. Encompassed by emerald rice fields, Villa Nawang Wulan is nestled within the beautiful agricultural belt between Kuta and Tanah Lot. It is located just five minutes’ drive from the rugged Berawa Beach – renowned for its world-class surf breaks and legendary sunsets – and fifteen minutes’ drive from the trendy Seminyak area, with its wide choice of internationally acclaimed restaurants, chic cocktail bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish spas and elegant boutiques.

Location

Just around the corner from the villa is The Canggu Club; Bali’s first and only international private members’ club; offering sports, social, and leisure facilities, including a state-of-the art gym, a 25-metre swimming pool and a tennis & squash centre. For horse lovers, the Umalas Equestrian Centre is very close by; and Nirwana Golf Course – designed by Greg Norman and renowned as one of the best golf courses in Asia – is a twenty minute drive. The villa is thirty minutes’ from the international airport, and convenient for all of the island’s main shopping malls and tourist attractions, including Tanah Lot, Bali’s most venerated sea temple

The romantic, 3-bedroom Villa Nawang Wulan blends contemporary tropical architecture with thatched roofs and antique furnishings. It takes its name from a classic Javanese folk tale, the story of which is depicted in one of the paintings that graces its walls. Guests will enter the villa through an impressive pair of towering teakwood doors. The central focus is the open-sided living pavilion, which is bordered by a 12 x 3.75-metre swimming pool fed by a waterfall, it is complemented by a stone terrace furnished with sun beds, and completed by a raised wooden deck at one end. The property is comprised of three buildings, bounded by a series of beautiful garden areas, well-stocked with flowering trees and shrubs. Cows graze in the neighbouring fields, and a tree lined valley with a small stream runs along one side. There is a secure car parking area at the main entrance.

Living Pavilion

The main pavilion houses a living area, a bedroom and a library. Slightly raised above the garden, it enjoys cool breezes and gorgeous views. On one side of this symmetrical pavilion is a cosy living area with a built-in cushioned sofa, and big, dish-shaped, water-hyacinth chairs in which you can curl up and watch movies on the large 42-inch plasma screen satellite TV, which is mounted upon the wall. There is also a DVD player and a quality surround sound hi-fi system. On the other side is a small pool table and another built-in sofa.

Library

The library is located in the main living pavilion beside the grand front entrance. It boasts a cream décor and a wall of built-in book shelves and cupboards. The open doorway to the library showcases an ornately carved Chinese window frame.

Tengah Room

Tengah means middle, and this peach-themed air-conditioned bedroom is centrally located in the main living pavilion. The built-in queen-size bed is made up with a sumptuous silk cover and scatter cushions, with colour-coordinated organza curtains. The bedroom is equipped with a mini bar-fridge, a safe deposit box, and a flat-screen TV mounted upon the wall. The room is ornamented with bright artwork, a full length mirror, a Buddha head and local artifacts. Double doors lead into the en-suite open-air bathroom, which is set beside a pebbled garden complete with a traditional Palimanan stone frieze depicting a scene from the Hindu epic tale of the Ramayana. An open-air shower is protected from the elements by the roof canopy, and a large washbasin rests beneath an exquisite cast bronze circular mirror. The toilet is alcoved to one side, together with some fitted cupboards.

Dining Pavilion & Kitchen

An ornamental pond under a covered pergola is traversed by stepping stones linking the main living pavilion to the dining pavilion. A bubbling fountain creates the serene sound of running water. The pavilion is characterised by two pairs of disc-shaped Chinese window panels, another Palimanan stone frieze is set into the wall; a carved chaise long is positioned outside the entrance. Steps leads down into the immaculate kitchen; this dream in dark grey polished terrazzo, is light and airy and fully equipped, and it is here that the staff will prepare delicious meals, served through the large open hatch adjacent to the alfresco dining area. The hatch is framed by another ornate window panel, and doubles as a bar with high stools positioned on the side that enjoys the open air. The dining area is sheltered by a soaring roof, and furnished with a chunky modern dining table for six, polished penshell wall lamps, a large antique cabinet, and a brass candi resting upon a stone carved plinth. A large guest powder room is located within a walled garden at the back of the pavilion, guarded by a lava stone statue of a Balinese goddess.

Bunga Room

Wooden steps within the dining pavilion lead up to the charming loft bedroom known as the Bunga (flower) Room. At the front of the room is a timber mezzanine – a delightful sitting area furnished with water hyacinth chairs, coffee table, and an Oriental rug. The Bunga Room is characterised by coffee and peach silk and organza soft furnishings, while being equipped with air-conditioning, a queen-size bed, a mini bar-fridge, a safe deposit box, and a wall-mounted flat screen TV. The en-suite bathroom is lined with natural dark grey stone and fitted with a stainless steel washbowl upon a pedestal, a rain-shower, and toilet. The adjoining stone sundeck presents rice field views; it is bordered by a low wall planted with pink bougainvillea.

Master Suite

The Master Suite is housed within a self-contained bungalow with a soaring thatched roof, and located on the far side of the main living pavilion. It is accessed by a pebbled pathway lined with yellow irises next to a sculptured Palimanan stone wall. The ’Nandi’ bedroom boasts a grey terrazzo floor and a magnificent four-poster bed adorned with primitive-style Timorese carvings. The silk bed cover and cushions, and organza curtains follow a copper and chartreuse theme, and the furnishings include three green Oriental rugs, a leather sofa and matching ottomans, a funky table, and an antique Javanese ’gerobok’ rice-storage chest on wooden wheels. A wood carving of Ganesha dances upon a shelf behind the bed. Double glass doors open onto a timber balcony offering rural views; this is a pleasant private spot where you can relax on a deck chair with a book or a cocktail. Another large window overlooks a pretty garden area, also accessed by double doors. The room is equipped with air-conditioning, a mini bar-fridge, a safe deposit box, and a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall; a spacious dressing area is furnished with a full length mirror, built in cupboards and a leather seat. The wonderful en-suite garden bathroom boasts a terrazzo vanity shelf with a marble wash bowl, a large decorative mirror, and a toilet and rain-shower positioned in opposite alcoves. The dominant feature is a huge oval bathtub where you can soak to your heart’s content under the stars, while still being sheltered by the roof canopy and enjoying the privacy that is provided by the high walls.

Villa Mako is a peaceful 3-bedroom retreat, complete with swimming pool, located in a quiet traditional village above a small river valley. The single-storey villa is neo-colonial in style, similar to the Dutch guesthouses of the Javanese and Malay hill stations, characterised by louvre shutters, old teak doors, and spectacular high wooden ceilings built of seasoned timbers. The eclectic interiors reflect the travels and passions of the owners, introducing Balinese and Javanese antiques, combined with a bold use of colour to create a very personal atmosphere.

Designed to maximise the natural light, and catch the cool breezes even at the hottest time of year, the property offers a blend of air-conditioned comfort and open-air tropical living. Its elevated position, meanwhile, affords beautiful open views over the pool to a jungle canopy against a backdrop of rice terraces.

The furnishings and decorations include large mirrors, armchairs, cushions and loungers that focus on comfort as well as style. There are numerous relaxation areas, together with a huge amount of covered space, so guests will always find a private spot for peace and quiet. In fact, a large family or group of people could stay at the villa and still lose each other within its depths. In addition to this, guests have the choice of three different eating areas, all of which present a unique ambience.

An advanced water filter system is used throughout the villa, raising the quality of the tap water to provide a pure drinking water source in the kitchen, with drinking water also supplied to the bathrooms and bedrooms.

There is an on-site laundry and plenty of storage space for luggage.

Entrance

The villa is approached via a private driveway with a secure car parking area. Two Chinese welcome statues guard the entrance beside a set of double Balinese doors, which open to reveal a covered walkway with a pitched roof, ensuring that there is no danger of getting wet during the rainy season. The walkway circumvents a lotus pond complete with a bubbling water feature in its centre.

Kitchen

Unlike many villas in Bali, where the kitchen is tucked away at the back of the property, the large and immaculate open kitchen at Villa Mako is a feature in itself, situated on one side of the lotus pond. Cream terrazzo work surfaces are flanked by well-stocked glass-fronted cupboards full of sparkling tableware. The kitchen is fully equipped with a sizeable refrigerator, an oven with a large gas hob, and everything else that the staff will need to create delicious meals. Wayan is an excellent cook; a menu is provided showing the dishes that she can prepare, and she is also very happy to work with other recipes and ingredients.

Breakfast area

To one side of the kitchen, overlooking the lotus pond is a breakfast area. Javanese-style glass lanterns hang from the ceiling, together with paddle fans. The circular marble-topped breakfast table is flanked by six chairs with brightly coloured yellow green and orange cushions matched by a decorative panel on the wall. A guest washroom is located next door.

Media Room

Bordering the lotus pond is a cosy media room, reminiscent of a wooden chalet, and furnished with an oversized sofa with deep cushions in gorgeous shades of green, turquoise and orange. Colourful artwork adorns the walls, and there is also a sofa-bed, a leather lazy rocking chair, a double-decker coffee table, some attractive lamps, shelf units, and a leather woven mat on the floor. The room is built around four recycled timber pillars that support the roof. Folding doors open directly on to the lotus pond, so that the pavilion appears to float. Guests can relax in air conditioned comfort or they can open the doors wide and be cooled by ceiling fans and natural breezes.

The Media room is equipped with a TV together with DVD/CD players, and dial-up Internet access. A small Vaio laptop computer has been installed for those who would rather not bring their own. The high quality sound system is linked to speakers all around the villa, or alternatively music can simply be contained within the media room. There is a connection to the amp for those who want to listen to music stored on their personal iPods or laptops.

Main Hall

The central focus of the villa is the magnificent main hall, an expansive living and dining area with folding doors on either side that open wide to allow the cool breezes to circulate. The soaring roof in this splendid pavilion is 8.5 metres high, and supports paddle ceiling fans. The hall is furnished with a formal teak dining table that comfortably seats ten and is lit by pendulous globe-shaped lanterns. Traditional Indonesian artefacts are displayed on wall shelves, while chairs and a huge daybed, complete with an abundance of cushions, is positioned around a funky coffee table. Lamp-stands in the form of wooden Javanese statues, together with a huge, crystal wall mirror, complete the picture of luxury. Folding doors composed of wood and glass open onto a sunny Batu Yogya stone terrace, which doubles the living space of the hall making it a perfect venue for parties.

Bedrooms

Each of the three air-conditioned bedrooms presents a theme; each boasts an en-suite bathroom, and each is equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a mini-bar/fridge and safe deposit box. The two master bedrooms enjoy soaring roofs and magnificent views together with sunny balconies at the front, furnished with lazy chairs, overlooking the garden and pool. Fitted with ceiling fans, the balconies are great spots for relaxing with morning tea or afternoon cocktails.

The Bali Room is furnished with a super-king-size four-poster bed canopied with the traditional hand-woven textile known as ‘ikat’. The room features polished teak floors and French windows with louvre shutters, which open out onto the terrace and balcony. Antique furniture, bedside tables and lamps create a romantic ambience. Timeworn stained glass doors lead into a large dressing room with a Batu Yogya stone floor, a massage bed and an abundance of cupboards with antique louvre doors. This room can also be used for nursery, and a cot can be provided. Another colonial style door leads into the expansive cream-coloured terrazzo bathroom, featuring ‘his and hers’ washbasins resting upon a terrazzo vanity unit. There is also a huge wall mirror, hanging lamps, ceiling fans, an alcoved toilet, and a powerful overhead rainshower complemented by the thoughtful provision of a handheld shower. A glass skylight in the roof allows the sunlight to stream in above a sunken sculptured terrazzo bathtub, which is big enough for two. Decorative green bamboo trunks in terrazzo pots add to the tropical feel.

On the opposite side of the terrace, double doors open into the Colonial Room with its lovely polished teak floor, and a super-king-size four-poster bed with white drapes and snakeskin cushions. A gold-framed mirror hangs on the wall and French windows with louvre shutters enhance the colonial theme. The bedroom is furnished with a desk, armchairs, and an ottoman at the end of the bed, and there is a dressing area with fitted cupboards. The en-suite bathroom is L-shaped; fixtures and furnishings include an oversized sunken sculptured terrazzo bathtub, ‘his and hers’ washbasins, a toilet hidden within an alcove, hanging lamps, a rainshower with a handheld shower, a massage bed and ceiling fans. The bathroom has an open air feel, due to the provision of glass windows in the roof, maximising the natural light.

The Bamboo Room is accessed by double antique doors, and can be set up with two beds for younger guests or as double room. The en-suite cream terrazzo bathroom features twin washbasins, a toilet hidden within an alcove, ceiling fans, and a rainshower with a handheld shower. Glass windows in the roof maximise the natural light.

Garden & Pool

A wrought iron gate heralds the entrance to a central flight of steps leading down to the pool through an avenue of umbrella ferns. The beautiful garden then rolls down to a river located behind its boundary walls. The garden is dotted with sweet-scented frangipani and orchids, and bordered by mature trees including teak, coconut palms, and a towering breadfruit tree. On either side of the garden is a banana, palm and pandanus plantation.

Although the gate is an attractive feature in itself, this with an adjoining fence separates the main house from the pool to ensure the safety of any young children staying at the property.

The 18-metre mango-shaped swimming pool is 1.5 metres deep with a large platform area just 15 centimetres deep for kids. The cobalt-blue tiled pool is filled with light salt water instead of chlorine, and is equipped with an innovative filtering system utilising pure water from the villa’s own bore.

The stone pool terrace is furnished with six sunloungers, table and chairs, four large Balinese parasols, and two poolside statues of Balinese gods and goddesses. On one side is a barbeque ‘bale’ pavilion, with a thatched ‘alang alang’ roof, a dining table for six, a fridge, a fan, an intercom to the house, speakers for the sound system, and a sink. A washroom is located behind the pavilion, and the staff will prepare barbeques beside the pool. Additionally, there is a poolside reading bale, fitted with bamboo blinds, a fan, and a colourful mattress and cushions.

Twelve flaming torches at night cast a stunning reflection of the Balinese parasols within the still water of the pool, turning the scene into a romantic little paradise, serenaded by a chorus of frog song.

At the bottom of the garden is a rustic brick wall with a door opening onto the river bank; here guests will find a simple and private riverside bale, perfect for meditation. This is also the site of a holy spring, where offerings to the gods are made by the local villagers. Eighty metres along the river-bank is the village temple. Guests will be welcomed at temple festivals, some may even be lucky enough to witness a barong dance or other Hindu ceremony. The villa staff will be happy to help with ceremonial clothing and advice on etiquette.

Location

Villa Mako is hidden away in the traditional village Tiyingtukul, just five minutes’ drive from the beach at Canggu on Bali’s south west coast. This out of town setting offers the double attraction of being close to everything that guests might need, while also presenting a fascinating insight into the traditions of rural Bali. The neighbouring Echo Beach, with its world-class surf breaks and panoramic coastline views, is the place where the local community gathers in the evenings to watch the legendary sunsets. The trendy Seminyak area is just twenty minutes’ drive from the villa, presenting an exciting nightlife, together with an abundance of trendy boutiques, luxurious spas, and internationally acclaimed restaurants – including the famous ‘Ku Dé Ta’, ‘Kafé Warisan’, ‘Living Room’, ‘Hu’u’ and ‘La Lucciola’.

The location of Villa Mako offers easy access up to the mountains and rice terraces on the western slopes of the island, and is just twenty minutes’ drive from the Sunset Route, gateway to the eastern side of the island. The international airport is between twenty-five and thirty-five minutes’ drive depending on the traffic. The location is also convenient for all of the shopping malls and main tourist attractions. Easily accessible sporting amenities include the ‘Canggu Club’, just eight minutes’ away, and the nearby ‘Nirwana Bali Golf Course’. Designed by Greg Norman, this was voted the number 1 golf course in Indonesia; it is situated beside the dramatic, waved-lashed sea temple of Tanah Lot. For horse lovers, the ‘Umalas Equestrian Centre’ is just a few kilometres away.
